Memorization has Begun

I entered the Allen Theatre (for the first time ever) and all I can say is... wow! It's gorgeous.

Today, the Allen Theatre is the sacred rehearsal space of Nicole Boyer Cochran and her intrepid 14/48 cast (Rob Burgess, Mark Boeker, Rob Jones, Annie Lareau, Kate Parker). Together they are working on Paul Mullin's play, /me misses hyperbaric.

At this moment, the cast is hard at work memorizing the piece, which may or may not have something to do with sand boxes, martinis, the movie Airplane, and an internet chat room. I'm definitely looking forward to this one.

Building a House

I sat in on a conversation designer Ahren Buhmann was having with director Tyrone Brown. Tyrone drew out his ground plan and indicated where the kitchen, living room and bedroom would be... the various playing areas in his piece. He then asked for a swimming pool and a 2 car garage.

In the upstairs level, Paul Mullin and Nicole Boyer Cochran said their play is TOP SECRET. What!? Top secret!? I had to know more and, after Paul called me Curtis, he told me there was "lots of nudity and all the actors have to be touching one another throughout the entire play." I left the top level confused and suffering from slight altitude sickness... back to the basement where everything is safe.

TECH BEGINS IN 4 1/2 HOURS!

One last night cap...

Before I go and dream of flying goldfish and a talking whale named Gus, I leave you with a few more memorable quotes and moments from the evening...

* Mazen Winner Elizabeth Heffron drew the final show for night one - 3 Men, 2 Women

* "Andy Jensen is drawing for Paul Mullin." -Shawn Belyea (followed by a delightful chorus of boos which is the only appropriate response if someone is unable to attend the meeting.)

* In the above picture all of the playwrights have just drawn and are viewing their assignment for tonight, except Celene who is using the powers of telepathy to reveal the mysteries within the folded piece of office paper (another reason to adore Celene Ramadan!)

* And finally, a FISCHNALLER UPDATE! As Troy was leaving ACT I asked him how he was feeling about tomorrow. Troy responded, "I feel like... ummm..." and then proceeded to trip and stumble his way up the stair way. This makes me very nervous... is the pressure of COLLATERAL DAMAGE getting to Fischnaller... is he dealing with Swine Flu... only time will tell.

Good night sweet, delicate actors/directors, don't stay out too late band members and burn blisters in those fingers our dear writers... we all eagerly anticipate tomorrow's product!
