getting off high atop a ladder (and a couch)

Dear Diary,

I just finished lunch and I'm back here in the coolness of the theater.  With the taste of vegan salad with peanut sauce still in my mouth, I sit here marveling at the sensual experience of this theatre experience.  I can hear the box office crew chatting and busily preparing for the show that is going to be starting in less than four hours.  The band is sounding so phenomenal, they are distracting me.  So much talent!

The sounds of hammers pounding, drills drilling and saws buzzing are adding their own texture to the music.   Maggie Lee, one of our sound directors...

(More distraction:  Get Off by Prince is up in the house as I type this..."23 positions in a one night stand..."  squirrel!)

...where was I?  Oh yes.  Maggie asks me to stand in a particular spot on the stage so she could adjust the lights.  While I was standing there, I asked the guy drilling what he was doing.

"Making a couch," he replied nonchalantly.

"Like you do," I said, remembering the portal of shower-curtain like glittery awesomeness that I mentioned earlier.  Turns out his name is Banton and he's no virgin.  He's been banging away on the design team for quite some time.

While I was chatting with him, Maggie was atop a high ladder, helping me find my light.  I think that's what everyone at 14/48 does best:  Help each other find their light.  It's fucking beautiful.

From the land of 1000 crushes and deflowering,

Kymber

PS, If you're stalking me and peeping into my diary, you should totally come to the shows tonight at 8:00 or 10:30.  You will be altered in the most wonderful way.

14/48 - The Process Behind Social Networking a Festival, pt.1

Jodi-Paul said I should (or maybe he said couldn't... I can't remember) do a post for the blog from abroad so I decided to do investigative work on facebook using posts from those involved to give a report... here it is...

14/48 - The Process Behind Social Networking a Festival, pt.1

‎RYAN HIGGINS - "14/48 gods, give me something fun. Or something excruciatingly horrible. Either way it's tome to become an alchemist and turn anything handed to me into gold."
* The item of interest in this perplexing facebook update is Higgins' use of the word 'tome' - meaning 'a large book'. A large book used to study alchemy. In a weekend which throws the rehearsal process on its head, I find it challenging to think that Higgins is going to sacrifice such an immense, and ludicrous, amount of time to study alchemy. Keep an eye on Higgins' performance tonight... and be very critical.

BANTON FOSTER - "is gonna design your brains out, 14/48. Yeah, you like that."
* I think this post is obvious. Banton wants brains. Banton has become a zombie. Being he wants the 14/48's brains, I would keep an eye out for the steering committee... specifically Shawn Belyea.

LIBBY BARNARD - "Night world. 14/48 this weekend!!!!!"
* Too many exclamations marks equals lots of nervous energy... sweet, sweet virgin nervous energy.

MEGAN AHIERS - "14/48 tonight! Based on the theme "headin' down south"... I don't think you want to miss this one."
* Yes. True. Based on facebook posts I also don't think you want to miss this one.

Reporting from the performative world of the social network... I'm out.

Tech - Show 1

Question: If you need to hide strawberry topping during your show, why hide it by the band? I mean, come on, one of them is going to start craving something sweet during the show and I'm putting my money on Banton Foster. Ol' Banton. He'll be elbow deep in the strawberry topping. I don't blame him. I'd be elbow deep in the strawberry topping as well.
All in all, Charles Smith seems to have a good grasp on the technical elements of his piece. I just don't understand hiding the strawberry topping by the band. Call me old fashioned. I just wouldn't do that.

P.S. I need...

Over in 'TECHIE CORNER', demands are being made for sets, props, costumes and lights. First up, Nicole Boyer Cochran:

* She needs a bench, maybe two benches, but not chairs... definately not chairs.
* She needs a big display of flowers for a funeral... cats out of the bag... there's a funeral tonight.
* She needs lighting which is bright, like a sunny afternoon.
* She finished her wish list with, "I don't need a pony." Banton sunk in his seat at this news as his prospects of making a prop which would top the freakishly large claws were dimming. "I could've made the best pony ever," stated Banton, "A pony made from paint cans, gauze and an old rusty trampoline!"

You'll get your prop Banton... don't you worry.
