Lunch Room Update

We have a new member of the stage management crew! Shaudi Bianca Vahdat will be calling the light cues tonight. I asked her how familiar she was with the 14/48 process, and she said, "well, I have stage managed before".

I asked if she'd ever seen or been involved in 14/48 in the past. Undaunted, she responded, "no, but I'm familiar with the process. David Baldwin and I had a good conversation and he told me what I should expect." Brave girl, isn't she?

I chatted with David about his new assistant. He said he will be designing the show just as he did yesterday, and Shaudi will call the light cues for the board op. And once the cues are all ready to go, 14/48 is not much different from other shows, when it comes to calling the show. I think we're in good hands!

In other news, Nin - the production assistant with the documentary crew can't stop sneezing - which is tricky considering she's standing right behind the camera team that's recording cast/crew interviews, and Amanda Lee Williams can't stop coughing. Ever attentive Manuel Cawaling brought her some water. If this doesn't solve the problem we might need to attempt the Heimlich maneuver.

A lot of the actors here having lunch are sticking with their casts and either running lines or discussing moments from the play. Very studious group. Sarah Winsor found an empty table to be by herself.

Finally, Michael Mowery is here, and he says "We need a canvas rucksack. Can you put it on the blog and see if anyone has one?" So if you have one, or know someone who does, please chime in.

Play #1 in Rehearsal

It's early in the rehearsal process and I missed the table work but Mr. Hyland is so strong and deep-voiced and assertive as well as sensitive and thoughtful to this trio of lovely, talented actresses as they begin blocking/beat work.  They're laughing!  OH so nice and fun to see the fun of this 14/48.  I'm getting weepy.  I love them all.

Virgewatch: The Ticket

Friday night's first piece is written by a virgin, LaChris Jordan, and features 3 virgin actors; Matthew Middleton, Chris Einsweiler, and Sylvie Davidson. Also present are veteran actor Kaleb Hagen-Kerr and veteran director Tina La Plant. This piece has inspired fire gloves, pregnancy bits (always a crowd pleaser), the band's excellent performance of "Ring of Fire", and the following piece of direction;

Tina: No, no, no, he lights the fire before the water breaks.

They have just completed a run of the show, which depicts a very "down home" sort of American family, and Tina is heading off to the director's meeting. She tells them to rest and drink water.

The virgins are calm, cool. None reek of barf, none are visibly crying. This here's a good set of virgins, I'd say. Healthy, confident, and talented. Dang talented.

I just sat at the dinner table occupied by the cast and director. After seeing Keira McDonald's hair, and commenting on it's grodyness, Keira promises she's gonna 'do it up'. I ask Sylvie Davidson and Amanda Williams about their hair, as they are playing a 'whiskey tango' mother-daughter pair. They say 'they gone do each others up real good'. Kaleb Hagen-Kerr is there. He plays the papa, and we decide he's like a wrangler, since he's got purt near a gaggle of virgins workin his soil, and he's the papa.

I am deboning chicken with my mouth, and Kaleb says, "I'm a Vee Dubya."

"A Vee Dubya?" I say.

"Yeah, a Virge Wrangler."

Kaleb is shown here, languishing in the world of the whiskey tango. He's a world class Vee Dubya.
