Play #4: Too Silly?

In the rehearsal room, director Paul Budraitis is working with the cast of Maggie Lee's The Tree of Time. Maggie told me this morning after director draw that she thought her play might be too silly for Paul, but I don't think that's going to be a problem.

The characters are elves, fauns, and humans, and they are staging a fantasy-style/street-style girl fight. It's silly goodness and the actors throw themselves into the fantasy trope.  Actors Donna Wood and Alyson Scadron Branner figure out a bit of fight choregraphy while Paul works with the other actors.

He gives the actors a bit of business.  They try it.  Then he says, "No, let's not do that. That's stupid."

That's process at 14/48...make a choice and move on.  The next bit of business, some phallic staff stroking, is a keeper.

"Wow, time is moving quickly."  Paul proposes that they work the scene, break for lunch, and regroup. The actors offer a big Yes to all of the above.
