End of the donut show into Force Quit transition. This is the one rehearsal I didn't make it to, so come along with me while I find out what this'll be all about!
Mosher has been standing onstage for about 10 or more minutes with his pants around his ankles reaching for Susanna's breasts. He attempts to exit with pants at ankles. Yeah. Not gonna work, but phunny!
In comes an office space set. Nice cubicle wall, designers! Padded burlap wall and all. Desk, phone, Apple computer....
(Sorry...had to tie Dawson's bow tie)
OK, where were we? OK. Annie doesn't need to run it. "I trust you guys."
Keith at the computer and Brian sitting behind him watching...not patiently. Lots of non verbal stuff. Funny stuff. "Ahhhh...." "Uh uh."
Ah, computer hell. I've never heard of the E:/ either, and donkey dongs are always funny to an I.T. guy.
Comic timing is razor sharp, pacing is spot on and guess what? Actors know their lines!
Oo! I hear Blinded me with Science!

3:50-ish All of the Holes TECH
Bret Fetzer walks in with an arm load of donut holes.
Transition discussed. Band works on the transition and...they jump into...A donut glaze jingle. Parking in the Rear. That's lovely says Fetzer.
Working on light wash. Band backlit...and well, since nothing really happening on stage, band runs the transition again.
No Adam yelling for everyone to be quiet so he can yell for a crew. This is another Keep Calm Carry On group.
OK - lights are ready to run with sound cues....nope. Not yet.
And we almost had another register on the Fetzer laughodometer...oo. so close. I'm told it's up over 20 now. I'm going to get something he can wear on around his throat so I can track tomorrow wherever he is. I'm going to keep talking about the Fetzer laugh because lights are doing their little clearcom thang and the keyboard is just working a few bars and the cast is running lines to themselves....and we're now 15 min.
Nope. Cigarette smoke is a no-no here, so, nice thing, but there it is. Just the breast bath with donuts.
Well, lets run cues for actors. With the band? Sure. Why not.

3:29 Mon Amie La Rose TECH
Hello and welcome to the tech that has already cursed Saturday.
Opening/closing with Talking Heads Television Man.
Big, industrial window panes on the scrim
Remote control S F/X coordination with keyboard guy.
wanna fuck three times is the cue for S F/X (usually is).
You kiss like a dentist and she inserts a clock device into her person.

Friday Director's Meeting
Starting at 3:05
Great, Awesome, that's easy.
Awesome. Wonderful. OK. Great. Great. Awesome. Awesome. Great.
Cool. Sounds Easy. OK. OK.
Awesome. Awesome. Yeah. OK. Cool. Cool. Awesome.
This is all really easy, Cool!
Wonderful. I like your little drawing. Wonderful. Well, it's a bong instead of a pipe. I don't have a lighter yet. I have 7. Oh, good, it's a pipe. Sage? Natural tobacco. How about marijuana? I mean, yes?
Gee, I wonder where we could get any of that around here? So, that's it?
Seriously, are you kidding me? You guys! OK, (head shakes).
Wrapped at 3:15pm
Oh, the gods are giggling: we are so being set up for tomorrow.
Bridezilla in the Moster Dimension AM rehearsal
I walk in while Ben & Kate are choreographing the "Murder Dance".
"Stab! Stab!; Claw! Claw!" with a hip-swingin, do-the-hustle groove.
That's going on on the upper mezz level of the Bullit.
Below, Director Carter is working out blocking with the other three. Don Darryl has a puppet, "the pet" named Corky, that bays like a sheep whose inhaled helium and I think is supposed to be Gila monster
"Make sure you grab my boob so I laugh" says Teri to Don Darryl.
Dancers: "We have 2 dances!!" Carter: "I want 4 by 7 o'clock"
And Ben is Capt Underpants.

The Empty Flock AM rehearsal
All sitting around the table reading through and discussing what each line is all about. Director Faker gets them to the place he wants with, "Think of it like this: I'm an actor, you're an actor, neither of us likes children's theater, but I want my health insurance, so we're going to do Go Dog Go. OK?"
"Death provides for us, and so we wait," goes the line and the intent is now clear.
Megan comes running in to ask Shawn a question. She leaves. He thinks of something else and calls her back in. What's up? I can't hear. Jodi-Paul's response is, "They were supposed to be here by 11."
Shawn replies with something to the effect of, there are supposed to be 3 and something about some place not being open. What will you do about tomorrow? Go some place else, I mean, whatever. I'll quit! says Faker. Oh, no you won't.
It's a Beer Crisis. Not good.
Anyway, back to mourning the guy who died covered in honey, pants caught in stirrups and arrows in his ass. Doooon't get too Albee-esque, though.
Look how brilliant that is, my casting, says Faker. Huh? Yeah? Yeah!
Oh! I want Jodi-Paul to lead my mourners some day.

All of the Holes AM rehearsal
I walk in right as Director Fetzer says, "take it back to where you take off your pants."
Line: "Lisa had an accident with the donuts that made my pants fall off."
Evan asks, "now where is the photographer?!" So, I oblige (I will post that later).
Yes, best to smoke with the upstage hand while smearing your breast with the other.
And more blocking discussion that goes on for at least 5 minutes while Evan stands there with his pants around his ankles.
I see he took the costume notes from last night to, please, wear underwear.

Recall AM rehearsal
This is the play I heard the designers discuss whether it is set in a half-way house or prison. It's a prison, whose story will be told in pieces.Everyone falls to a dead silence when Director Ziman takes a quick break. I mean, no talking or anything. I look up and the actors are all sitting still, somewhere in that deep-within place. It's the first time I've seen that during the festival. Or, maybe its self preservation in front of the blogger.
Anyway...
It's visiting hours and things need to be said. Lots of things and everyone needs to tell her. Discussion about parenting skills against character and what a pop on the face is really about vs what it isn't.
"2 Minutes to Recall...."
Mon Amie Le Rose AM rehearsal
A remote, a tape recorder, and a couple of others. Director Pattie is working on blocking with wicked sharp technical director jargon, like, "go ahead and hit something and that makes you do something." Automatons make great de-synchronized applause that sounds more like popcorn popping and a great line about doing jello shots with Bill Cosby. Yes, worse than death, that.
Kites AM rehearsal
As writer Brandon walks away, the cast/director all applaud his play and then George says, "OK, let's start changing this thing...oh, is he still here?"
A car accident is thing and George quickly reviews stuff with lighting designer while the cast recalls their own 14/48 history as a participant and player.
Jason the band contact comes in: Sound cues are scripted references to the wind. Open with peaceful, serene sound. Need a growing sense of something...negative on page 6. Need the band to make car accident sound effect. Out with Talking Heads. That makes for 2 Talking Heads requests, says Jason.

Design stuff
I could tell the designers are gonna have fun with today's slate. Lots of laughter and something about hoop skirts with donut holes in the front. I didn't catch as much as I wanted, but Omar says it's all about umbrellas. So. There it is.
Theme chat
Says Trick about getting his theme selected: It's like catching a foul ball at a game. After 9 or so years of participating, its really cool!
Catch Trick and his gal Amy Hill together tonight in KITES

Friday Casting Call
While the designers sit at one table and read through all the scripts, the actors stroll in and get breakfast and adjust eyes to the bright light in here. Is it me, or is it a lot brighter than last week? Peter runs through some notes, blah, blah, blah! Here's to Deb & Gretchen in the kitchen and don't grab lunch before 1pm.

things heard/said/seen
| And what's is wrong with this picture? Could it be Jonah with two left ears? |
Nope, not since TPS. Not together.
That because of that play you kept saying, 'its a damn vagina play'
(Fetzer laughodometer: 3x...and then another time)
I loved the powerpoint. It was awsome.
(something about Nyquil and something else not mixing and staying organized)
9:10am Fri 1/14
The scripts have been passed out (including Celene's) and the directors are reading through.
Pattie just wants to make sure she understands that two cast members are a remote control and...something else non-human.
Stay tuned. More after coffee

Technology
Stupid .PDFs won't attach.
I'm not crazy.
I totally attached it and then it...unattached.
I didn't think I was *that* tired to not attach the play. It just...pretended to attach.
Oh, technology.
Always and forever.

Good Morning!
Play number 3 is up!
Wait.... does it suck? Lemme see here.... uh, hm.... uh, huh... It DOES! Hooray! All is right with the universe! And so I send it off!
I would like to take this moment to profoundly apologize for anyone that I make miserable today.
Hey- this blog thing is really nice. Let's me get some things off my chest in the first morning before a festival. So I don't have to shove it all down inside where it piles up and turns black and rotting, burning tiny holes into my ability to hope.
Have a good day everyone!
Writing done @ 3:37 am!
Just wrapped up Play #7. 3 Men 2 Women. I think it's going to be titled "The Empty Flock" Sort of a weird Dickensian-emo-tale with a lil heart. Or maybe not. I have to hear the read through. Fingers crossed 14/48ers!!! -Jonah
